Daintree Grey Nomads seniors holiday page.

Brought to you by a Daintree Grey Nomad.

If you are planning a trip to The Daintree, the first thing you need is a map. Three actually, one for Daintree, one for Daintree-Cape Tribulation and one for Daintree-Wonga Beach.

DISCOUNTS offered to seniors visiting Daintree (Cape Tribulation and Wonga Beach). Mossman is our nearest regional centre and Port Douglas is our nearest boat harbour. Some of the participating discounters are in Mossman, Port Douglas, Craiglie or Cairns. It is appropriate that they are listed here as Daintree itself has little infrastructure.

NFORMATION CENTRES
Catching my eye in the 30 Dec Cairns Post :-
"Cape York travellers are often given wrong information by Cairns Information Centres."
Anyone can call themselves an information centre and they do. Information centres are mostly owned by tour companies or tourism associations. Cairns information centres are there to flog their member's products (for a commission) or their own products. Us poor innocents think that, because of the "Info" sign, it is the real McCoy and we can get accurate and un-biased information. Ask the Cape York travellers what they think.
In 20 years of living up here I have only seen 2 independent "Information Centres" and both went broke. There is the occasional accredited information centre run by volunteers and they are priceless but that is the exception rather than the rule. I only know of a few in Queensland; Tully, Townsville, Malanda, Herberton, Babinda, Chillagoe, Mission Beach, Innisfail, Kuranda, Cooktown, Mareeba, Ravenshoe, Croydon, Georgetown, Malanda and Maryborough. I am starting to have second thoughts about them as well. TWO of them will NOT display our River Tour brochures unless we pay them!!!!

Understandably discounts are important to most grey nomads but there are other aspects to this site that look more at quality, for instance a 2 hour dusk cruise on the Daintree River accompanied by boutique wines and hor d'oeuvres for $60. The operator will not go if there is only one or two people booked and who could blame him, but if you can organise a small party then the operator goes and you have a wonderful time. If you do book a small group then it is always wise to ask for a discount.
The operator is Electric Boat Cruises in the Daintree Village. Ask for Scott or Hillary.

Another would be the Combined Clubs restaurant in Port Douglas. Next to the boat ramp and Coast Guard on Dickson's Inlet this restaurant has one of the best outlooks in Port Douglas. It is right in town,  has a comprehensive menu, good wine list, smoker's section and it is a fraction of the price of the other Port Douglas restaurants. The locals use this place.
